When I am asked to speak about the books that have influenced my life, I would say – my Bible and a host of inspirational/ leadership books.
Why these selections? You see, my Bible is more than a Book I read only because I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Saviour (that’s a major reason) – it amazingly goes beyond this major why. It is also the Book I study to draw courage to go through life. For example, when I read the story of how David killed Goliath, while he was yet a teenager, I realize I am way older not too young to conquer my dreams.
Now, to a host of leadership/ inspirational books; I have a lot of these books I read through the years. I basically grew up in the Library, spent at least three days in a week in the Spiritual and Leadership Development (SLD) segment of the Covenant University Library during my first-degree study (this capacity building story created chapter 1 of my book). My point is, reading those books blessed me beyond measure for years that will still come by God’s grace.
I remember picking up a particular book while I was a teenager titled, ‘Soaring with Eagles’ by Bill Newman; my Father bought a copy each for my siblings and I. He did this to help us model success right from a young age. Do you know that the Eagle is an extraordinary bird? (You can read the book too). A certain nugget that stayed with me from the pages of the book was the concept of ‘Renewal’ – it explained how the eagle sheds its feather and dead external parts after a number of years and then waits for healing and new growth – it then soars into the skies with renewed strength.
It is what the scripture says in Isaiah 40 verse 31…
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (KJV).
That blessed me and stayed with me because when I get worn out in life from the challenges and stress of years, I can renew my strength like an eagle. It’s amazing!
Final Note:
Do you need renewal this New Year? You should totally pray for one, heal, grow anew and then soar into the dream skies with renewed strength in Jesus Name. Amen!
Very well spoken! Quite inspirational and sincere! God bless you dear and give you more grace.
Thanks and kind regards, Rosemary Okoro.
