“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

– 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks…Why do you think the Bible says, ‘give thanks’?

Well, among other reasons, it says this to save us from the plague of a gloom-filled life.

You see, the process of complaining releases a myriad of burdens with it: it reminds you of the hurt, it magnifies the anger, it regenerates the pain, it enlarges the grief and eventually introduces gloom.

In the light of a quote…

Be happy

When was the last time you felt excited that very moment while you were complaining? (Do think about it). I thought about this and tried to come up with a date, but I never found one.

So, this brings me to the realization that complaining has not helped anyone to increase their level of happiness.

I found another quote…

“The act of complaining brings its own gloom already.” #BlessingShares

The question becomes, ‘why don’t you want to be happy?’

It is said that happiness is based on your situation- I’ve come to understand that this statement is incomplete- we should finish it up with this…‘you determine the reaction you make out of every situation.’

Situations might be uncontrollable, but your reactions are controllable. Hence, you determine whether to be gloomy or happy.

The Bible says in…

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world.”

– John 16:33 #MyBestVerses

Another question is, ‘do you feel God did not know it will be a crazy world?’

He knew. That’s why He have us His Word to assure us of victory at every point in time. He tells us to be of good cheer…no ‘gloom’ needed.

This brings me back again…

We really cannot be complaining and expect to be cheerful all at the same time.

Give thanks

Now, the final question is, ‘how do we stay cheerful?’

  1. GIVE THANKS!!! Literally and consciously. When you find yourself about to complain, talk of the good in that situation instead. For instance, when wives complain about the ‘burden’ of their role…I would rather you talk about the blessing of being a wife in the first place.
  2. ENGAGE IN PRAISE… Pick days to intentionally praise God. It doesn’t matter what is happening at that time- you must praise Him. One of my new best songs has the line that says, ‘praise Him while your lips still sing.’ (Deborah Joy Winans- ‘The Master’s Calling). As long as there is life, there is hope…Praise Him!
  3. ENGAGE IN WORSHIP. Remember to worship God for Who He is. We must never forget that God created us for His pleasure (see Revelation 4 verse 11). We may get so worried about ourselves and forget to worship our Creator. That ought not to be…Worship God for Who He is…the same yesterday, today and forever (see Hebrews 13 verse 8). He will pour the oil of gladness upon you…you will forget every gloom (Psalm 45:7) Amen!
  4. ADD TO THE LIST. As inspired by the Lord. Live your life by seeking out God given ways to give thanks. Amen.
